  19. Subject: Determining Compatibility of Fax/Modems with WinFax
  20.  
  21. Situation:
  22. ==========
  23. You are not certain if your fax/modem is compatible with WinFax PRO.
  24.  
  25. Solution:
  26. =========
  27. Do either step 1 or step 2 as follows:
  28.  
  29. 1.  Run WFXTEST.EXE. This utility reports the COM ports and fax/modem
  30.     available for use with WinFax. WFXTEST.EXE is found for WinFax PRO
  31.     2.0 on the WinFax diskette, and for WinFax PRO 3.0 in the
  32.     directory in which you installed WinFax.

  34. 2.  Run a communications program. If you run Windows Terminal, start
  35.     at step a); otherwise start at step b).
  36.  
  37. Note:    The Terminal program is usually found in the Windows
  38.          Accessories Group. Consult your Microsoft Windows User's
  39.          Guide for more information.
  40.  
  41.     a)   Run Windows Terminal, and select Communications from the
  42.          Settings menu. The Communications dialog appears. In the
  43.          Connector section, choose the COM port your fax/modem is
  44.          installed on and then click on OK.
  45.  
  46.     b)   Type ATi4 and press ENTER. The response should be one of the
  47.          following:
  48.  
  49.               Sendfax
  50.               No Sendfax
  51.               Error
  52.               [Information about the BIOS version installed in the
  53.               fax/modem]
  54.  
  55.          If the response is "Sendfax", then the fax/modem is
  56.          compatible with WinFax and you should install for a Sendfax
  57.          fax/modem.
  58.  
  59.     c)   Type AT+FCLASS=? and press ENTER. The response indicates
  60.          compatibility with WinFax as follows:
  61.  
  62.               Response        Compatibility
  63.               --------        -------------
  64.               0,1             Class 1
  65.               0,2             Class 2
  66.               0,1,2           Class 1 and Class 2; install as either
  67.  
  68.     Note:     Sendfax fax/modems recognize this command as an ATA
  69.               command and will consequently try to pick up the line.
